Sambucus L.

Genus composed of 22 species distributed through the temperate and subtropical zones of both hemispheres. In North Africa it is represented by 2 species, both distributed through the most humid places in the Mediterranean region. S. nigra, is a well-developed shrub that sometimes becomes a small tree. The other, S. ebulus, is a plant with herbaceous stems that can reach up to 1.5 m long.
