Nitraria L.

Genus composed of 7 species, with a wide distribution including SW and central Asia, North Africa and Australia. Only 1 species is found in Africa, N. retusa, typical of desert and semidesert areas. Members of this genus are halophilic shrubs, 0.5-2 m in height, with entire, alternate and ± succulent leaves.
