Euclea L.

Genus from which 63 species were once described, of which only 18 are recognised in recent revisions. The type species of the genus is the only one that is found in North Africa, E. racemosa. These are trees or small African trees, dioecious, generally evergreen, sclerophyllous, with entire coriaceous leaves. Flowers in racemes, or more rarely solitary, with campanulate corollas with 4-5 lobes and 10-30 stamens grouped in pairs, ovary much reduced and fruit a globose berry.
