Terminalia L.
This genus comprises approximately 300 species, primarily trees, native to tropical and subtropical regions. In Africa, it is found only south of the Sahara. In Mauritania, at the southern tip, only one species has been recorded: T. avicennioides Guill. & Perr. Other species, such as T. brownii Fresen, extend north to central Sudan, while others, like T. macroptera Guill. & Perr., have a wider distribution across the Sahel but are too far south for this project. This study will focus on T. leiocarpa (DC.) Baill., as its northern range extends to the mountain ranges of the southern Sahara.
