BERBERIDACEAE Juss.

Family with 19 genera and some 750 species, mostly shrubby, distributed in temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, the E of Africa and central and South America. In North Africa it is represented by a single genus, Berberis, composed of woody plants.
