Arbuste ou petit arbre \u00e0 feuilles persistantes, hermaphrodite, de jusqu\u2019\u00e0 7 m de haut, \u00e0 port dress\u00e9, tr\u00e8s rameux. Il peut atteindre jusqu\u2019\u00e0 20 m dans les \u00eeles Canaries. Dans le continent africain cependant, il ne d\u00e9passe habituellement pas 3 m. Tiges et rameaux principaux un peu tortueux, \u00e0 \u00e9corce brun-noir\u00e2tre. Ramilles brun-jaun\u00e2tre ou brun-rouge\u00e2tre, dens\u00e9ment couvertes de poils blancs, ce qui leur donne une apparence blanch\u00e2tre. Feuilles de 3-9 \u00d7 0,4-0,7 mm dispos\u00e9es en verticilles de 3-4, lin\u00e9aires, termin\u00e9es en une pointe obtuse, glabres ou villeuses. Le bord est si r\u00e9volut\u00e9 qu\u2019il occulte enti\u00e8rement l\u2019envers. Inflorescences ombelliformes, tr\u00e8s abondantes, de 1-3 fleurs. Les rameaux florif\u00e8res forment une panicule pyramidale caract\u00e9ristique. Fleurs \u00e0 involucre de bract\u00e9oles basales. P\u00e9dicelles l\u00e9g\u00e8rement plus longs que la corolle. S\u00e9pales de 1,2-1,8 mm, ov\u00e9s-lanc\u00e9ol\u00e9s, blanch\u00e2tres et glabres. Corolle de 2-4 mm, campanul\u00e9e, blanche, \u00e0 lobules terminaux non r\u00e9volut\u00e9s. Anth\u00e8res incluses, pourvues de 2 appendices denticul\u00e9s. Fruit en capsule subglobuleuse de 1,8-2,5 mm, glabre, d\u00e9hiscente en 4 valves.
