Sa diff\u00e9renciation s&rsquo;est av\u00e9r\u00e9e tr\u00e8s probl\u00e9matique, car elles s&rsquo;hybrident ais\u00e9ment ; il n\u2019est donc pas rare d\u2019observer des exemplaires interm\u00e9diaires entre deux esp\u00e8ces et d&rsquo;autres issus de lign\u00e9es introgress\u00e9es (assimilables \u00e0 une esp\u00e8ce, mais pr\u00e9sentant certains caract\u00e8res propres d&rsquo;une autre). Dans le N. de l\u2019Afrique, 8 esp\u00e8ces sont pr\u00e9sentes dans l\u2019aire m\u00e9diterran\u00e9enne et les zones humides permanentes de l\u2019extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 septentrionale du Sahara, dont 3 disposent de vastes aires de r\u00e9partition (<strong>Salix atrocinerea<\/strong>, <strong>S. pedicellata<\/strong> et <strong>S. purpurea<\/strong>). Moins connue est la r\u00e9partition de deux esp\u00e8ces proches, susceptibles d&rsquo;avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 fr\u00e9quemment confondues : <strong>S. alba<\/strong> et <strong>S. fragilis<\/strong><em>. <\/em>Deux autres esp\u00e8ces se pr\u00e9sentent tr\u00e8s localis\u00e9es le long des rivi\u00e8res du N. (<strong>S. triandra <\/strong>et <strong>S. eleagnos<\/strong>). Enfin, <strong>S. mucronata<\/strong> est tr\u00e8s amplement r\u00e9partie en Asie occidentale et en Afrique tropicale, p\u00e9n\u00e9trant dans l\u2019aire m\u00e9diterran\u00e9enne nord-africaine \u00e0 travers l\u2019\u00c9gypte, atteignant \u00e0 l\u2019O. le N.-E. de la Libye.<\/p>\n<p>Les saules poss\u00e8dent un bois poreux et blanc, peu r\u00e9sistant, et sont tr\u00e8s pris\u00e9s par le b\u00e9tail. N\u00e9anmoins, ils ont une valeur foresti\u00e8re exceptionnelle dans les terrains o\u00f9 les crues causent des dommages importants de mani\u00e8re r\u00e9currente. Ils s\u2019enracinent avec facilit\u00e9 et peuvent \u00eatre tr\u00e8s largement utilis\u00e9s pour le repeuplement des bords de rivi\u00e8res afin de freiner l\u2019\u00e9rosion de leurs berges et de diminuer la force et la vitesse du courant. Certaines esp\u00e8ces requi\u00e8rent des terrains \u00e0 bioclimat sec ou subhumide (<em>S. alba<\/em>,<em> S. triandra<\/em>,<em> S. eleagnos <\/em>et<em> S. atrocinerea<\/em>), tandis que d\u2019autres, telles que <em>S. purpurea<\/em> et plus particuli\u00e8rement <em>S. pedicellata<\/em>, sont bien adapt\u00e9es \u00e0 des terrains plus secs, l\u00e0 o\u00f9 les cours d\u2019eau peuvent \u00eatre ass\u00e9ch\u00e9s plusieurs mois par an.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","short_name":"Salix","name_html":"<strong>Salix<\/strong> L.","short_description":"","references":"D\u00edaz Gonz\u00e1lez, T.E. &amp; Llamas, F. 1987 Aportaciones al conocimiento del g\u00e9nero <em>Salix<\/em> L.
