In North Africa it is represented by an increasing number of species as it advances from the Mediterranean to the Equator. <strong>F. carica <\/strong>grows in the Mediterranean area. The rest of the species are Saharo-palaeotropical, such as <strong>F.<\/strong> <strong>ingens <\/strong>and <strong>F. salicilifolia<\/strong>, that reach N along the mountains of the central Sahara. <strong>F. abutilifolia<\/strong>,<strong> F. cordata<\/strong>,<strong> F. palmata <\/strong>and<strong> F. sycomorus <\/strong>are frequent in the southern Sahara and reach to the N, through Sudan, up to Egypt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","short_name":"Ficus","name_html":"<strong>Ficus<\/strong> L.","short_description":"","references":"Beentje, H.J. 1994. <em>Kenya trees, shrubs and lianas<\/em>.
